There are a varienty of ways to play a game of tennis including social tennis, team tennis, club tournaments and leagues, coaching and games that you arrange with others.

Team Summer LeaguesThe Club enters several men's, ladies' and mixed teams in the Watford & District League (WDTL) and Herts League during the summer months.

Team Practices: in March and April, men's and ladies' match practices are arranged on Thursday evenings. They are generally organised by the team captains and are intended for players who wish to play for any of the Club Teams.

Team Winter Leagues: during the winter, the Club enters teams in the Herts Veterans' and East Herts Leagues. If you want to be considered for a team you should make yourself known to the Men's and/or Ladies' Club Captains.

Club Tournaments: the club organises its own tournaments including the Annual Tournament, the Handicap Tournament and Americal Tournaments held several times during the year.

Club Winter League: During the winter season (roughly October to April) the Winter Leagues have proved to be very popular. Singles and mixed doubles with 6 players/pairs in each of 6 or more divisions compete over a six week period.

Social Tennis

Adult social tennis is played on:-

  • Tuesdays from 1.30 to 3.30 pm
  • Wednesdays after 6.00 pm
  • Saturdays from 2.00 to 5.00 pm

througout the year. Wednesday evenings in the winter are less popular and it is often advisable to make arrangements to ensure a game. Social tennis is for all adults from beginner to club champion, as well as for the better juniors, and generally follows the following format:

Please note, during social tennis players should not play privately arranged games, as this is considered to be unsociable

Doubles Sunday mornings: up to 12 noon priority is given to arranged doubles games. You need to arrange in advance a group or groups of 4 members, the format being otherwise generally as above.

Group Coaching

Most adult coaching is available to members and non-members, and is offered at all levels, beginners, intermediate and advanced. There are also drills sessions and organised doubles matches with tea and biscuits.

Tuesdays 10am to 11.30am Drills Session (hard work!) With Martin £10 members, £12 non-members

Wednesdays 9.30am to 11.30am Play Session. Organised doubles followed by tea and biscuits in the Clubhouse With Martin for 'club standard' players £6 members, £8 non-members

Thursdays 9.30am to 11am Coaching Session with Nancey for Beginners £7 members, £9 non-members

Fridays 10.30am to 12.30pm Coaching Session with Martin, suitable for 'club standard' players £10 members only

Fridays 7pm to 8.30pm Coaching Session with Ross, not suitable for beginners £7 members, £9 non-members

Saturdays 12noon to 1.30pm Coaching Session with Nancey for Beginner/Intermediate players Ideal for non-members who are thinking of joining the Club £7 members, £9 non-members
